Is this sentence grammatically correct?

Because of Dr. Walker's study on the minds of abused women, there have been many other studies that have been followed up to prove what the exact injustice is that is going on; it is believed to be a silent epidemic because each year more women are abused and either murdered or become murderers as a result to the prolonged beatings and nothing is being done about it, so as a result, the woman gets charged with voluntary manslaughter.
